Exhibit 3 — Schedule of Exhibits, sheets 1 to 4
A case file always begins with a list of itself. Four typed sheets, two hundred and eight items numbered D-1 to D-208, the last twenty added in ballpoint by a hurried hand, and a crossing-out at item 63 that nobody ever initialed. It's the first thing you scan and the last thing you read. A list has no smell.
At item D-14, the schedule for file 4417 announces: Interview of Mme Solange Ferrero, car 14, berth 61.
